Oct 02, Dawn rated it really liked it. This was my text book when I took Art History classes in the olden days. At that time there were few women artists discussed in this text. Hope that has changed in more recent editions. Yes, surely a staple from most art schools' must haves.

I imagine it would be best read for a class, as the experience was most satisfying when I understood how each era influences the next, and how the different styles relate to each other, and it was difficult to come back to the book after a couple of months and remember what had happened previously.

This book along with the class gave me a modest understanding of art and architecture through the beginnings of civilization.
